Merry Christmas Everyone!!

This has been such a busy year that I cannot believe we are already back at Christmas Day. Time seems to fly by faster than I can keep track of it lately!

I am still keeping busy with my variety of projects, and as always feeling driven to be doing even more! Never one to miss an opportunity for further education, I spent most of the Spring months taking some online courses in graduate level robotics and artificial intelligence, and in the summer I continued my studies in advanced mathematics. I also managed to make progress on a couple of major research projects I have been working on in mathematical physics, and if no more catastrophes hit (and if I don't get distracted again by interesting side projects) I am still hoping to get them written up and published in 2016. And on the topic of publishing, this past month I had my science blog compiled and published into a paperback format, and as soon as I have checked over the proof copies I am going to put them up for sale. I also have a couple of other books nearly finished, and so hopefully I will get them out to the publisher next Fall.

On the home front I am still saddled with caregiving duties. My mother seems to be getting more forgetful and dependent lately, and the promises she made a few years ago to get more independent seem less likely to happen now. Meanwhile my brother continues on the same as he has been for the past two decades. Looking after everything here takes up more of my time then I would like, but based on my past experiences with the local hospital system, I have little to no hope of getting them into a carehome anytime soon. It is not always easy to support them all on what I earn, but at least this year we finally got my father's final debts paid off and can move on.

Over the summer I made a few trips to the mainland, and one extended trip to Hornby Island, but unfortunately the weather was too extreme to get any work done. As some of you may have read, there was a two month long drought that dried up the wells, and much of the highway leading up to the island was engulfed in smoke from numerous wildfires. As such I was not keen to start up the gas mower to clear out more of the fields around the cabin, and potentially set off yet more fires.

Other than that, everything is continuing on as normal here. I am still doing odd jobs and projects, and enjoying the freedom to work on research ideas that interest me. I am also doing some programming work, and I have an interesting new software project in the early stages. I will give more details in the new year when some of them have been confirmed.

Anyway, I wish you all a very merry Christmas, and hope you all have an amazing and joyous 2016!
