News

December 16, 2011 - I just saw on the TV that J.P. Patches is officially retiring from public appearances and such (and only thirty years after his children's show ended). For those who grew up in the pacific northwest like I did, it seems like the end of an era. But I know all the Patches Pals will be hoping for the best for him. (Watch a Video Tribute Here)

December 13, 2011 - Just a quick note tonight for anyone who - like me - uses the Rogers Portable Internet service. I just learned that the service will be shut down by March 1, 2012 and replaced with a more expensive system. So users should probably start looking into options now before the rush in the new year.

December 6, 2011 - All my Christmas shopping is now completed, so I can spend the next three weeks relaxing while everyone else scrambles through the malls :)

November 30, 2011 - Bought my Christmas tree and brought it home today, which makes it now feel like Christmas time has arrived.

November 25, 2011 - Watching the news stories about customers pepper spraying each other, fist fights, knifings, and armed robberies in honour of Black Friday makes me very glad I did all my shopping early and online!

November 23, 2011 - In case anyone thought I didn't have enough websites yet, I have started another! The address is chrisbird.heliohost.org, and since there is nothing on it yet it is currently public. (and in case anyone is wondering, I am starting this new one because I find that my current host doesn't offer enough geeky features to play with, such as PHP and MySQL hosting. If you don't know what those are, then my new site probably won't be interesting anyway)

November 21, 2011 - My laugh for the day: a local store is selling a coat that is identical to the one I wear. Same material, same colour, same lining, same buttons. It is without any doubt the exact same coat. Except they are an upscale store selling the latest fashions, and charging $400 for it whereas I bought mine at the army surplus for $10 !

November 19, 2011 - For those living in the province of British Columbia, today is the municipal election. So read about the candidates in your area, see who has the same views as you, and get out there and vote!

November 17, 2011 - I was just reading about a hard drive shortage this year. Apparently due to flooding in Asia, hard drives here are either unavailable or they are selling for double or triple their value. They say this will last for another six to twelve months, so I would suggest people buy any cheap drives as soon as they see them.

November 15, 2011 - Thank you to those who pointed out that the hit counter on this website is not working. I am currently working on debugging it and will try to get it operable again in the near future.

November 11, 2011 - Today is Remembrance Day. I hope that everyone takes a few minutes out of their day to remember all of the men and women of all generations who have fought and sacrificed for the freedoms we have today. Personally I will be remembering two grandfathers who volunteered in WWII - one airforce and one navy - as well as many friends and family who have served over the years.

November 9, 2011 - Some readers (assuming that anyone's life is so dull that they read my posts) may have noticed that the counter on the front page has reverted from ~4500 views back to 0. That is because I was using the counter off of my main webpage, and now I have setup a separate counter for this page. So from now one, you must add the two counters to get a total number for all of my sites.

November 8, 2011 - I think that I finally have the hacked pages restored to normal, but as always if you see one that is of dubious authenticity I would appreciate being notified of it so that I may fix it.

November 3, 2011 - Due to problems with my primary public website, I have decided to separate the content into two separate pages on the philosophy that if one gets attacked at least I can use the other one. So this page is being setup for any content or announcements that only affect my family or close friends, while the other one will be used for more public content (such as my software programming or my dictionary publications)
