October 24, 2015 - With the arrival of Halloween next week, I have once again had inquiries into my pumpkin artwork and photography. For those who are interested, two great sources of patterns and templates are PumpkinGlow and Zombie Pumpkins. I have had a lot of success in past years with their designs (interested viewers can see my own artwork from 2001-2005,2005-2011, and 2012-2014. Some, but not all, of these are based on Zombie designs).
October 19, 2015 - I normally keep my websites apolitical, but as a scientist and a rational thinker I just cannot help expressing my joy that the nightmare is over and we finally have a good government of Canada and an intelligent prime minister once more!
October 19, 2015 - A reminder to everyone in Canada that today is the federal election. If you don't vote, you don't get to complain about the government later. So get out there and cast your vote - unless you support a party that I don't in which case feel free to stay home and protest the entire political system by abstaining :)

September 29, 2015 - I don't normally post links to news items, but this article just needed to be commented on. It is about a mother who was a fulltime caregiver for her autistic son, and how she begged and pleaded with every branch of the government for some support or help of any form and was denied. As someone who has been through a similar experience, being a fulltime unpaid caregiver for two or three mentally ill patients for seventeen years now, I can really empathize with her. It is long past time for governments to start recognizing the horrible nightmares of being a caregiver and get serious about providing real support!

September 12, 2015 - For those of you who use Skype, there is a new warning of a scam. Apparently someone is connecting with people on Skype, encouraging them to tell secrets or send photos, and then using that information to blackmail users into sending money. This warning is especially important for parents who have children that use Skype as teenagers can be too naive and trusting online.
September 8, 2015 - Its the first day of school! I hope everyone who is starting out on new journeys and adventures through education has a great year, and enjoys the opportunities they are being given. Knowledge and education is truly the greatest treasure one can possess.
August 19, 2015 - Finally some positive and serious news from the Canadian election - the Rhino Party has decided to run candidates! I really hope they run someone in my area so I will have a viable candidate to vote for.
August 15, 2015 - It would seem that while I was away, someone was seen removing mail from my mailbox. If anyone has sent me anything in the last week or two that I haven't acknowledged, let me know because it may have been stolen.
August 13, 2015 - Apparently there have been some connection problems to my dictionary website, as well as ongoing issues related to the fact that it was written seventeen years ago and is just a bit outdated. As such I am starting to write a mirror site for it, which is currently under construction but will be eventually located at http://chrisbird.zohosites.com/dictionary.html.
